The Dessert Dome

This will be my continuation of our 7 hours educational visit in Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo. Just like what I have told you, we watched the Fighter Pilot: Operation Red Flag first. We did not notice the time we consumed in watching but all I can remember is that we headed to Desert Dome.

It was my first time to see that largest glazed geodesic dome. Amazing! It was said that it cost $31.5 million (includes Desert Dome and Kingdoms of the Night) and was opened on April of 2002. It became "The world's largest indoor desert, the Desert Dome" and has become a landmark of Omaha. The Desert Dome features plant and animal life from three deserts of the world: the Namib Desert of southern Africa, the Red Center of Australia and the Sonoran Desert of the southwest United States. The Desert Dome contains 84,000 square feet on two levels (42,000 square feet on each level).

Located beneath the Desert Dome exhibit is the Kingdoms of the Night, the world's largest nocturnal exhibit.

Later, I will post the pictures that we took. At this time, it is not downloaded yet so i will attached it later. We indeed, enjoyed in strolling, getting the informations and features of the plant and animal life in different deserts of the world including the animal kingdom of the night. By visiting such place, you will be refreshed of the knowledge you gained back in school days. It was fun so make a schedule to visit the Animal Kingdom.
